My first test in A.P. Language

So today was rough. We took our first official test in class today, and it was hard i had trouble with the writing portion, because i didn't watch my time. I feel good though I feel as if I've passed, and did well. The test took the whole block. It was based on claims and evidence we've been studying claims for the longest, but as i said today was good and cold.

Mother Tongue

Today, The class read Mother Tongue by Amy Tan. She spoke about her troubles with her mothers English. Although it was common for her to understand; she told us how others couldn't understand her mother, and the problems, and dilemmas that caused. Tan often had to handle things for her mom because of her mother's English. It illustrated the way people treated her mother due to the way she spoke. Once Tan’s mother was at the doctors' office for her CAT scan but because of her English, the doctor's office wouldn't resolve her problem. Tan’s mother said she wouldn't leave until they called her daughter. After her daughter spoke to the office the problem was resolved, and her mother received the apology she deserved. I loved today's story because of its reflections on the many types of English’s there are and the author's life. I naturally don't like reading, but this years stories interest me a lot.

8 Common rules of Commas

Today, We reviewed our blogs from yesterday, we actually made a lot of errors in the blogs. Our teacher took the time out to remind us of the 8 common rules of commas, we took notes, and examined  the blogs. He showed us our mistakes, and showed me my spelling errors. Truthfully I made a lot of them, and i mean a lot! After reviewing our blogs, and showing us errors my teacher gave us many examples of where to place commas. We also worked on using quotations, italics, and underlining. Class was normal today but, once again the room was very cold, it didn't hurt much but, I believe need a bigger jacket.

Myth of Latin Women

Today, day in class we read and discussed The Myth of Latin Women. To start we discussed the definition of myth and then we discussed the word Latinas and what we thought when we hear the word, Latina. Honestly, there's a lot of discussions which naturally there is. The story spoke about the stereotypes Latinas encountered and how their culture was viewed. I honestly liked the story because it allowed me to see the problems of Latinas but also it was just interesting to read about the problems the author fast from leaving her home to coming to America. She spoke about how even at a young there was a difference from the clothes that they wore to parties, and just in their everyday lives. The author takes it from her childhood to even as she was grown, she even listed a problem her friend faced dealing with her professor. The story  was nice and all-around great to read and it was nice to discuss the stereotypes Latinas faced and how it impacted the author and the rage she often felt at times. Yet it's also disheartening when the author spoke about a father and his daughter singing a song called Maria, that part made me mad but other then that class was good and cold as usual.
